Maybe i'll try using 98SE on the Dell since Win2k is so unoptimized for multimedia use. I used to play DVDs on Windows 98SE with an old VLC version and I used good enough video cards like the Rage 128. From my experience I know Windows XP can play DVDs right out of the box without any issues at all, even the early versions like XP SP1. ![]() Any other ideas? I'm quite surprised that Windows 2000, with all those system updates can't even play a DVD. I don't know how to fix it other than fishing around for more codec packs until one magically works. DVDs still play way too sluggish to be any fun. I tried using the free downloadable codec pack, "WMCodecPack.exe" and it did not fix anything. I tried out VLC and DVDs have a below par sluggish audio and video performance. It has a Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 2GB ram, and a PCI based Radeon R9250 256MB video card. ![]() The system should be more than capable for playing DVDs. The moment I pop in a DVD I get a message saying there is no Windows 2000 compatible DVD decoder installed on my system. ![]() After I installed all the missing drivers, I tested out DVD playback. I put a fresh install of Windows 2000 with all Windows updates put in with Nlite. ![]()
